Reading from a ZIP File

In SAS 9.4, you can use a FILENAME statement to read in files directly from a ZIP file. The example below shows the text file "Cars.txt" being read from the ZIP file "Archive.zip" into a SAS dataset:

The ZIP file is assigned a fileref using the keyword ZIP to let SAS know the access method to use. The optional "MEMBER=" specifies which file within the ZIP file is to be read in (highlighted below) . Alternatively the filename can be specified in brackets on the infile statement (also highlighted below):
